Montminy wins bronze in 10-metre platform

SYDNEY (CP) -- Anne Montminy of Montreal won Canada's first ever Olympic medal on the 10-metre platform when she took the bronze Sunday.

Montminy scored 540.15 points on her five dives to win Canada's seventh medal of the Games. She had the silver but was knocked down a notch on the final round of dives.

Laura Wilkinson of the United States won the gold with a score of 543.75, and Li Na of China took the silver with 542.01.

"I can't digest it at all. I'm so excited and tired and I don't know what to do with myself right now," a jubilant Montminy told CBC.

"I came here and I said I'd be disappointed if I didn't get a medal and I've got a medal, so I came here to do what I had to do."

Emilie Heymans of Greenfield Park, Que., finished fifth in the eight-woman final with 511.92.

Montminy and Heymans will compete in the 10-metre platform synchro event on Thursday.

"We're going to do our best to get a medal in the synchro event, so I'm still just as focused," Montminy said. "We have a very good shot in the synchro event, so watch out for us."
