CBC SPORTS TO AIR UNPRECENDETED COVERAGE
OF THE 2002 PARALYMPIC WINTER GAMES
STARTING SATURDAY, MARCH 9 AT 4:30 P.M. ET ON CBC-TV

CBC Sports will air an unprecedented level of Paralympics Games
coverage for the upcoming 2002 PARALYMPIC WINTER GAMES in Salt Lake
City, beginning on Saturday, March 9 at 4:30 p.m. on CBC Television.

For the first time ever, Canadians will get to see their Paralympic
athletes in action with same-day competition coverage, feature segments
and competition highlights. The 10 hours of same-day broadcast coverage
during the Games (March 7 - 16) represents the most ever afforded to
the event. Athletes will compete in three events: Alpine Skiing, Nordic
Skiing (cross country skiing and biathlon) and Sledge Hockey.

"We are looking forward to providing more exposure to the Paralympic
Games and our Canadian athletes who are taking part in the events," says
Nancy Lee, executive director of CBC Sports.

"This broadcast commitment from CBC Sports will showcase Canadian
Paralympic athletes' abilities and excellence," says Brian MacPherson,
CPC Director General. "The Canadian public will get to see what we, in
the sports with a disability community, have known all along: that Canada is
a
world leader in the Paralympic movement, on and off the field of play."


The Salt Lake City Canadian Paralympic delegation is comprised of 27
athletes - four women and 23 men - two skiing guides and 27 mission
staff.
