Woolstencroft wins gold on final day of Paralympic Games

SALT LAKE CITY (CP) -- Toronto's Chris Williamson and Victoria's Lauren Woolstencroft won gold medals in men's and women's slalom events Saturday on the final day of competition at the Paralympic Games.

The two golds anchored a solid finish for Canadian athletes, who earned four medals Saturday. That boosted Canada's haul to 15 medals (six gold, five silver, four bronze), the same total it had four years ago in Nagano, Japan.

Canada finished sixth among 36 countries in 2002.

Woolstencroft captured the women's standing slalom in 1:50.40. Calgary's Karolina Wisniewska was second in 1:50.80. The medal was Wisniewska's fourth of these Games, making her Canada's most decorated athlete at this event.
